The future of Tasman: bike-pedestrian paths
The future of Tasman: bike-pedestrian paths

Against tall odds, Council approved bi-directional bike-pedestrian paths on Tasman Drive last month. This decision is the culmination of much hard work by advocates and staff alike. These paths will be Dutch-quality, almost the first of their kind in Sunnyvale. They will provide pedestrian and bicycle access to thousands of residents in the mobile home parks and surrounding neighborhoods along Tasman.

Currently, mobile home park residents on that stretch of Tasman cannot walk or bike out of their homes as sidewalks are missing along most of it, bike lanes are nonexistent, and the road does not even have a shoulder.

Bike-pedestrian paths were approved on the western 0.6 mile segment of Tasman from Fair Oaks to Vienna. The western segment is higher priority because of safety problems. The remaining 0.3 mile segment from Vienna to Lawrence does not currently have plans for improvement.
